Read Clive O’Connell’s fantastic review in the Age of the most recent Australian Chamber Choir concert. It was certainly a challenging program, but the concerts were a lot of fun, and we enjoyed performing for enthusiastic audiences in Geelong, Macedon, and Middle Park. Now to prepare for our live broadcast on ABC Classic FM on Sunday 30 November!
Last Sunday I gave a recital at Janet Clarke Hall, University of Melbourne, as part of a talk by biographer Ann Blainey on her book ‘I am Melba’. Accompanied by Jack Tan on piano, I sang Nellie Melba’s favourite encores, including Dvořák‘s Songs My Mother Taught Me, Bishop’s Home Sweet Home, and Tosti’s Goodbye. Ann Blainey is a fantastic public speaker and author, and if you haven’t already read her book, you can buy a copy here!
I’m looking forward to my very first concert with the Australian Chamber Choir at 3pm on Sunday 14 September, 2014, at the beautiful St John’s Church, Flinders. The program includes:

Thomas Tomkins (1572-1658) – When David heard that Absalom was slain
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) – O Jesus Christ mein’s Lebens Licht (BWV 118)
John Tavener (1944-2013) – Song for Athene (1993, performed at the 1997 funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales)
Brett Dean (born 1961) – Now comes the dawn (2007)
Brenton Broadstock (born 1952) – I had a dream (2005)
Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) – Salve Regina
Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924) – Latin Magnificat for Double Choir Op.164

Performing in Hans Krasa’s Brundibar with Opera Prometheus at the Sydney Jewish Museum was probably one of the most rewarding musical experiences of my career. I feel pretty honoured to have been involved in such a wonderful project. Particular thanks to Mel & Sarah Penicka-Smith, and Sharna Galvin. Here’s a photo of the cast, taken before our final performance…
Over the last week, newspapers and websites in New South Wales and around Australia have published articles on the upcoming Sydney Brundibar Project. Read about the production on the Sydney Morning Herald website, and the Australian Jewish News. See below for information on Brundibar, as featured in The Australian:
